Guldhaven Pelagiska opens up for Vattudalens Fisk AB to acquire 50 percent of the shares during the first quarter of 2024.
Guldhaven Pelagiska has worked with sustainable fishing for more than 30 years. At the plant in Kalix, raw materials from the company’s own fishing, locally caught fish from Norrland and its own farming are processed. It produces Kalix Löjrom (vendace roe), vendace products and several other products from the fishery. Rainbow trout is also filleted and packed in several formats: whole sides, diced poké, midloin, stew pieces and mince. All products are sold on the Swedish market and labelled Från Sverige (From Sweden). The family business was founded in 1992.
Vattudalens Fisk has farmed rainbow trout for more than 16 years and has helped drive the development of the industry in Sweden. Today the group has 15 active sites from southern Småland to Västerbotten, with a combined permit to farm around 8,000 tonnes of fish. The entire production chain is Swedish: with its own broodstock, roe is stripped for the hatchery, and the fish are raised all the way to processed product. The company motto is Proud farmers.
We see that interest in and demand for Swedish rainbow trout is constantly increasing, and that customers increasingly want Swedish and sustainable options when choosing seafood. Through the partnership we can guarantee that larger volumes of Swedish fish reach our customers.
— Emma Gabrielsson, CEO, Guldhaven Pelagiska AB
The part-ownership helps stabilise the supply of Swedish fish on the domestic market. With Vattudalens Fisk’s production volumes and Guldhaven’s consumer-friendly products and sales channels, Swedish consumers can be offered a Swedish alternative. The part-ownership also strengthens the possibilities for long-term investment in farmed Swedish fish for wholesalers, restaurants and shops.
We are pleased that we can finally get more Swedish fish onto the Swedish market. Locally farmed food for the local consumer is one of our long-term goals.
